Benefits of the stroke prevention program
Caution is advised when atrial fibrillation is suspected. Although it is the most common cardiac arrhythmia, it often goes undetected because it often occurs without noticeable symptoms and irregularly.
If you are suspected of having atrial fibrillation, the next step is a final diagnosis by one of our cardiologists. To do this, make an appointment with a participating cardiologist in your area, or the telecardiologist.
For a general practitioner or specialist in your usual standard of care, the diagnostic options are limited. Often, the 24-h ECGs used in routine examinations do not lead to a clear result. Only about 20% of patients with occasional atrial fibrillation are detected this way. A cardiologist in our program can take much more comprehensive measurements of your heart rhythm with a 14-day ECG. In addition, you have the chance to make an appointment within 14 days and avoid long waiting times, significantly reducing your risk of stroke in time.
Following the diagnostics by our cardiologist, you will receive a doctor’s letter and a therapy recommendation and thus return to the treatment by your general practitioner or specialist. Therefore, just think of our cardiologist as a necessary stopover to make the best possible diagnosis.
If you still want to talk to your primary care physician or specialist first, we ask that you take this information with you for your physician:
The cardiologists in our program have years of practical experience and a specialized diagnostic technique – the 14-day ECG. It detects atrial fibrillation more reliably than the 24-hour ECGs used in routine examinations by your doctor. The small ECG device does not require any cables, making it much more comfortable to wear than standard 24-hour ECGs.
For you, the cardiologist in our program may be a new doctor, but he is already very familiar with your case: as soon as you come to the consultation, he has your measurement results so that he can specifically pursue the suspected diagnosis. He will first provide you with the 14-day ECG, which continuously measures your heart rhythm to diagnose or rule out atrial fibrillation. If you can’t find one of our cardiologists in the immediate area, you can also confide in one of the participating telecardiologists. Please note that our cardiologist’s special diagnostic technique is an additional support to the regular care provided by your primary care physician or specialist. After the therapy recommendation, all further treatment will take place as usual with your primary care physician or specialist.
